Hello all, I hope this Journal finds you all well and recovered from Christmas and the New Year celebrations, it seems a long time ago now!! This year we decided to put on an end of term disco for the children of the village and it went really well with so many children attending. We would like to thank David and Helen Chapman for making the fabulous Christmas grotto, it was really amazing and for Alex who stepped in as father Christmas at very short notice. We hosted our annual Christmas carol concert with the fabulous Cawston band entertaining us all. I hope you all agree this event really helps kick off Christmas and it was wonderful to see so many people of all ages attending. We have booked them again for this Christmas!! I would like to thank Jackie Barnes for the massive Christmas tree she donated for us to put in the sports hall, it was an interesting experience decorating it, thanks for all who helped. Next came Christmas eve which was not so well supported but was a lovely evening. Then on to New Year's Eve. Well, what can I say, it was so popular this year we held it in the sports hall to accommodate everyone, which was a fantastic evening with Lewis on the disco entertaining us all. The next event was a new one to us all but we thought we would try something different, it was our first ever drag event. We put the tickets online and hoped we would get at least 60 people to attend, well we certainly got that with an additional 100 plus people attending!! Again, we had to use the sports hall to accommodate everyone and what a night it was!! The feedback I have received was so positive so again thankyou to all who attended and supported us in this new event.

Now we look forward to the forthcoming year with our usual bingo, quiz and music nights. We are holding a Prosecco and pamper evening on Friday 22nd March as well as a mother’s day afternoon tea on Sunday 10th March. We hope to see you there. There is a 70/80/90’s event on Saturday 2nd March with tickets available online on the Filthy Rich Events page at a cost of £10.00. We are looking to put on a Peaky Blinder’s evening but are having trouble finding someone who could put on a casino night to accompany this so if you have any contacts we would love to hear from you. We would love to hear of any events you would like to see the Centre hold so if you have any ideas please get in touch. Now on a more serious note we are looking for some more committee members as we have lost three members due to family matters and ill health. I would like to thank them for their continued support. I would love to hear from anyone who could take on the secretary’s position, this is an unpaid post but only takes approximately one hour a week. We are also looking for a new treasurer, which is a paid position, Matt Wilson joined us many years ago as a temporary treasurer and is still with us but he would now like to step down to spend more time with his family. He has been planning to step down for the last two years. We are also looking for a cleaner to replace Jill on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, sadly she is unwell at the moment and feels the job is too much at present. Again this is a paid position so if you feel this might be a suitable position for you please contact me and we will have a chat as to what is involved. Thank you one and all for your continued support, the Centre is going from strength to strength since the dreaded COVID thanks to you all, long may it continue.

Happy New Year to you all. Judy Fisher
